Fund-Raising Idea

I really need to make one or both of my blogs generate some revenue. I don’t know about this one, but my main blog gets about 200 unique visitors per day. I’m reasonably certain that many of those readers don’t check in every day, while others are first-time visitors who have arrived via Google or another search engine. I think it is reasonable to conclude that one hundred or so people read that blog regularly.

If each of those readers contributed fifty cents the total would pay my monthly DSL bill! Is that too much to ask?

I’m thinking of running a three-week fund-drive during which each contributor would receive a print of one of my photos, with the size proportional to the size of the donation. There are several hundred photos to choose from and IMHO some of them are of high quality.

Rainy Day

I’m glad I already got one good walk in today, because what looks to be a persistent rain has set in. I wandered over here to see if any comments have been left; not a one yet!

I wonder how I would get photos uploaded to this sight, as much of my main blog is the presentation and discussion of photos I take.

I’ll try it, as I see that there’s an icon for doing so at the top of this editing window.

Another Cluster Of Oaks

Well, that’s simple enough! Perhaps I should explain what these photos are.

Often when an oak of any size is felled sprouts will develop from the stump. Sometimes one sprout becomes dominant and grows into another full-size oak. In these two cases more than one competing sprout survived, and no single sprout was able to become dominant by hogging all of the light.

The first photo shows a circle of bur oks about six feet wide. A truly enormous virgin oak once grew there, I’m certain. About eighty to a hundred years ago that tree was felled and sold. These sprouts are very slow-growing now and are probably about as large as they will get.

The second photo is a similar situation but only two competing sprouts survived.

An annoying issue with this version of WordPress, which is based on a beta version of 1.6: a new tab is opened up in which the image information is filled out, the URL etc. When this happens (at least in Firefox) the entire browser window gets really small. I expect this sort of behavior from intrusive pop-up windows but not from WP!

Walk At Dusk

This evening I walked with my wife Betsy around the pond as the darkness began to prevail. We were relaxed and happy; we’ve wlked together for over thirty years and we know how to arrive at a compromise pace. A bit slow for me, a bit fast for her. But just a bit!

The two pups more-or-less accompanied us. The older one, year-old Tucker, ranged farther in the hopes of starting up a rabbit or other small creature. The little four-month-old Dooley stayed close to our ankles; after all, we are his insurance of getting home again!

Betsy and I talked about minor issues in our life, avoiding one major issue which has rocked our equilibrium for the past eight months. There’s not much more to say about that one!

I just showed this post to Betsy, and told her that she could have this blog if she wanted it. She could broadcast her views on our tribulations to all of her friends at one, I said! She said she would think about it.
